On July 6th 2003, the Media Arts Interplay Association (MAIA) hosted the debut of the "U Judge It! Film Festival" at the elegant Delancey
Street Theater in San Francisco. Our judges (the viewers) declared the winners and had a great time at the very first, entirely audience
judged, wireless enhanced film festival!
The festival presented award winning independent films and gave every audience member the chance to be a festival judge through innovative wireless technology. Viewers in the theater used PDAs, web enabled cell phones, laptop computers and the lobby kiosks for film judging and commentary. Filmmakers read the feedback from the viewers over their wireless devices during the festival. The votes collected through the wireless devices determined all film awards. In addition to the usual Best of Fest and Best Director awards, attendees were able to vote in categories like "Film You Wish You Were In", "Line You Will Quote" and "Actor/Actress You Would Most Like to Date". At the conclusion of the festival, the winners were calculated and announced at the Awards Dinner, where the audience, the filmmakers and the festival's wireless technology team all came together to celebrate the unique festival event. Be sure to visit the Winners 2003 page for a list of the films, links to film descriptions and a list of this year's winners. See you next year! Press coverage: |
